AOG and Level 2 Powell River Sea Kayak Ltd.
Job Description:
Cabana Desolation Eco Resort is seeking professional, enthusiastic sea kayak guides who are excited by a multi-faceted approach to guiding. While sea kayaking remains the core activity, guides with Cabana also play a key role in delivering a rich, immersive guest experience that includes hiking, snorkelling, nature interpretation, and local history.
Guides lead small groups on 4 and 5 day trips based out of Cabana Desolation Eco Resort, located in the heart of Desolation Sound. All kayak trips launch and return from Powell River Sea Kayak’s private base on Okeover Inlet, providing streamlined logistics and a high standard of operations.
The Guiding Role
In addition to sea kayaking, guides at Cabana:
Deliver engaging interpretive content throughout the trip
Lead and support hiking, snorkelling, and island-based activities
Work closely with fellow guides and the chef to create a cohesive, high-quality guest experience
Assist with guest meals, kitchen flow, and general resort operations as part of a collaborative team environment
This role is well-suited to guides who enjoy and value variety, responsibility, and meaningful interaction with guests.
Guests & Interpretation
Cabana attracts adventurous, curious guests from around the world who value learning as much as exploration. Preference will be given to guides with a strong background - or genuine interest - in local interpretive topics, including:
Marine wildlife and intertidal ecology
Coastal history and Indigenous context
Geography, geology, and natural processes
Local flora and fauna of the Desolation Sound region
Strong communication skills and a thoughtful, guest-focused approach are essential.
Training & Support
Powell River Sea Kayak provides comprehensive training manuals and clear operational systems. To ensure guides are well prepared, all guides participate in a mandatory two-day preseason workshop at Cabana, which serves as:
An introduction to Cabana’s systems and standards
Orientation to the island and surrounding area
Training for Cabana’s multi-activity and interpretive guiding programs
We place a high value on professionalism, preparedness, and teamwork.
Accommodation & Logistics
Accommodation and meals are provided for guides while working at Cabana
On scheduled days off, guides are welcome to stay at Powell River Sea Kayak’s base on Okeover Inlet
The base offers space to park or camp, with water, toilet facilities, power, and Wi-Fi
To apply, please submit the following by email:
A cover letter and resume
This is a unique opportunity for guides who want to work in a high-quality, well-organized operation while expanding their skills beyond traditional kayak guiding in one of British Columbia’s most spectacular coastal environments.
