ASSISTANT OVERNIGHT GUIDE
Key Guiding Responsibilities
Assisting primarily on base camp kayak tours and possible expedition-style kayak tours
Delivering an exceptional wilderness experience to all of Kingfisher’s guests
Kayak instruction and on-water safety of guests
Providing natural and cultural interpretation
At campsite; organizing on-shore activities, meal preparation and campsite safety
Conducting pre-trip orientation meetings with guests
Pre-trip gear and meal preparation. Purchasing of necessary food and supplies
Post-trip gear cleaning and maintenance
Non-Guiding Responsibilities:
Preparation of gear and kayaks for kayak tours
Assist with base camp set ups in early June
Gear maintenance and repairs
Skills and Qualifications:
Certified as an Assistant Overnight Guide (AOG) with the SKGABC (other certifications will be considered)
Advanced Wilderness First Aid Certification (minimum 80 hour course preferred but 40 hour course may be considered for guides only guiding base camp tours)
VHF Radio operators certificate (ROC-M)
Drivers license (Class 4 unrestricted preferred)
Natural history interpretive skills
Completed Marine Naturalist Training (this can be provided if you don't already possess it)
Multilingual skills an asset
FoodSafe Certification (this can be provided if you don't already possess it)
Outgoing and personable; must be able to entertain varied groups of individuals
Exemplary organizational skills
Ability to work as a member of a team, take directions, and provide direction
Reliable voice and text communication on the north island (i.e your own Telus cell phone)
