In 2016, the SKGABC Fall Guides Exchange will be held on beautiful Pender Island!
In addition to our usual range of workshops on strokes, navigation, rescues, rolling, and general camraderie, events include:

  • special guest: humpback whale researcher & marine biologist Jackie Hildering
  • current workshops in Georgeson Passage
  • a visit to the oldest archaeological site in the Southern Gulf Islands
  • Happy Hour, and
  • live music from the Barefoot Thieves
  • .

Please note: participation in the Guides Exchange is only open to SKGABC members in good standing (Renew Now).

Registration:

    Please pre-register so we can ensure food and goodies for all!

Cost:
    $90 per SKGABC Member, all-inclusive of camping, meals, workshops, participation in activities, and chance to win door prizes.
    Prepay now or pay at the event with cheque or cash.

  • A few Level 2/3 Guides, Trainers, and Examiners may have the option to sign up as full-day Coaches for the Exchange and attend FREE.
  • A few discounted spaces available for logistical volunteers (from any level).
  • Contact the SKGABC by September 11 to inquire about these options.

Location:

    Pender Island in the Southern Gulf Islands, BC -- traditional Coast Salish territories.
    Yes, you’ll get to board a ferry (or two) if you don’t live here. Coming from:

    • Vancouver Island: Swartz Bay to Pender
    • Vancouver: Tsawwassen to Pender -- OR -- Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, Swartz Bay to Pender

Accomodation:

    Group camping is included in your registration at Browning Harbour Marina.
    At additional costs and at your own expense, private cabin rentals and extended stays are available. Try Woods on Pender.

Boats:
    As at all Exchanges, it's best to BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat)! -- even help support your guide community and bring out a second boat as well! If you are not able to bring your own kayak/gear, please contact Jay Raichura at Pender Island Kayak for your rental needs.

Equipment:

  • Full Coast Guard Reguirements are mandatory as always; full immersion gear (drysuits or wetsuits) are required for all rolling & rescue courses.
  • Pack along your regular guiding kit (VHF, charts, first aid kit, flares, re-warming gear, etc).
  • Please also provide all your own camping gear as none will be available for loaning out.
  • If you're someone who likes snacking through out the day, please also come prepared with your own treats for in between the provided meals!
